Mormon Poetry, 2012 to the Present

Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought is publishing an essay of mine about Mormon poetry over the last five years. I asked the editor, Boyd Petersen, if it’d be all right to post the proof for the article, and he said absolutely. Unfortunately, most of the books under review are not available in university libraries, so I want to thank the Maxwell Institute, especially Spencer Fluhman and Blair Hodges, for providing funds that were used to acquire much of the material necessary for writing this review.

Corrections requested for the proof were minor:

  • pg. 3, para 3, l. 3: change the apostrophe from smart to straight in Kan’onji (I think, but I’m not entirely familiar with Japanese typographic conventions; I’m just going off the Wikipedia page)
  • pg. 4, para 3, l. 1: the passage beginning with “All entries include” shouldn’t be indented
  • pg. 4, para 3, l. 10: this passage “typos throughout the book demonstrate that it would have benefited from a tighter copyedit. Rather, the issue lies with general formatting procedures, since increased typographic consistency” should be changed to “typos throughout the book demonstrate that it would have benefited from a tighter copyedit, since increased typographic consistency”
  • pg. 13, para 1, l. 1: the passage beginning with “A farrago of seer stones” shouldn’t be indented
  • pg. 14, para 2, l. 1: change “Another Chinese American, Neil Aitken is the Canadian-born” to “Another Chinese American is Neil Aitken, the Canadian-born”
  • pg. 15, first block quote: change format of numbers in last line to match format of numbers in the other lines
  • pg. 18, bottom para, l. 1: the passage beginning with “Second, Yours, by Kristen Eliason” shouldn’t be indented

Wow, this is great. Not only is this pretty dang thorough, it includes stuff I’d never heard of before and I thought I was plugged in.
